Adam Wharton His maiden beginning with the national team. Somewhat loose when playing out but his inswinging deliveries posed a danger. An effective game manager for the coach to utilize against defensive opponents. Booked after a reckless challenge. Six

Declan Rice Deliveries on corner kicks and set-plays were dangerous. Was given room to move in left midfield but was offside upon receiving in shooting positions. Awarded a well-earned substitution after an hour. Six

The star midfielder Played in an advanced spot on the right and also did plenty of dirty work. Demonstrated moments of class but scuffed an attempt wide. Replaced in the closing stages for a teammate, his rival, following a yellow card. 7

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s best chance in the opening period, his shot smartly stopped by Thomas Strakosha. As a teammate hanging back, it fell to him to offer an outlet down the right side yet his deliveries into the box were inconsistent. Substituted for the final quarter-hour. Six

The captain The difference-maker netting seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth strikes in an England shirt. His first a trademark opportunist's goal and the second a superb finish with his head following a clever run off his defender.
