Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
